The Third District Court of Appeal sided with our client in a decision issued this morning in George v. Susanville Elementary School District (2024) 103 Cal.App.5th 349. The court held that when a school district grants salary step credit to new teachers for prior teaching experience, it must provide the same credit on an equal basis to veteran teachers who acquire out-of-district experience. This decision is a victory for teachers, who often move between districts throughout their careers, and a defeat for the California School Boards Association, whose Education Legal Alliance filed an amicus brief opposing the teacher. LCP represented Ms. George through the California Teachers Association Group Legal Services Program.
